Castle Lite was launched into the South African beer market in January 1994. Over the years it has undergone various packaging enhancements. In August 2000 the brand was re-launched in a green bottle with a silver and red label, and the 660ml returnable bottle was introduced in 2003. It is the third member of the Castle family.

Castle Lite is lower in kilojoules and undergoes low temperature fermentation to create a cleaner, crisper taste.
