Almost 70% of SAB’s total permanent beer division headcount, and more than 80% in soft drinks, are now equity positions. From a gender equity perspective, more women are taking up positions in the company, especially at senior management levels.

The transaction is also designed to benefit employees.

 

Through SAB Zenzele, 3.39% of SAB is owned by the SAB Zenzele Employee Trust benefitting more than 9,400 qualifying employees. This represents 40% of the total number of SAB shares issued under the R7,3 billion transaction.

 

Participating employees include all permanent black employees of SAB, its subsidiaries and employees of the SABMiller Group who are permanently resident in South Africa. It also includes white employees who do not normally participate in the existing group share option plan.

 

Like the SAB Foundation participants, employees made no upfront cash payments. In addition to bi-annual cash dividends, participating employees have voting and economic rights in SAB Ltd from inception.

 

Allocations to employees are primarily be determined on the basis of their annual remuneration as at the allocation date, with consideration given to years of service.

 

Employees who resign, are retrenched, or retire may forfeit some or all of their participation rights in accordance with the trust deed. Employees dismissed for good cause will forfeit all of their participation rights.
