Learning & Development

Traineeships
One of the development paths for graduates involves entering SAB as a trainee.
A traineeship is a 12-18 month programme where entry level employees work on a supervised basis in the specific field that they are qualified in. A typical traineeship programme includes exposure to the SAB business as a whole, as well as specialised training in the field that candidates have been identified for. Traineeships equip entry level employees to learn on a practical and theoretical level and include a variety of courses developed for each specific field. Evaluations are done throughout the traineeship and employees are able to move in the organisation according to their potential and performance. Traineeship opportunities exist in all the fields mentioned on entry-level, management trainee level and executive level.

Internships
SAB takes in a number of interns each year. We offer the Training Outside Public Practice (TOPP). The programme meets SAICA’s requirements on training to qualify learners as Chartered Accountants and covers a 3 year rotational programme. To qualify for this programme, candidates must have the CTA/Honours qualification and be in a position to write Board Part 1 in the year of appointment. Our Industrial Psychology Internship affords opportunity for students completing their Masters degree in Industrial Psychology to gain exposure to the corporate world under the supervision of a registered psychologist. To qualify for this programme, candidates must have completed their first year of a Masters of Industrial Psychology.

The Training Institute

SAB’s purpose-built Training Institute – or ‘TI’ as employees call it - is a key vehicle in developing divisional competence and a source of strategic and core teaching. The Institute provides both “Corporate University” programmes, aimed at enhancing core competence and developing employee cover for key jobs, and short term programmes aimed at enhancing operational expertise.

Facilities on site are used to support the full spectrum of training and development activities undertaken by SAB. On average, close to 7 000 delegates either attend courses or meetings at TI every year.

Courses have National Qualifications Framework (NQF) alignment and cover the spectrum of Human Resource Development from on-the-job training to internationally recognised degrees. Training combines internal courses with externally accredited qualifications from affiliated academic institutions.
